1. Day 2 ~Root Farm: Let's play, in the farm!
The highlight of today is that we met the founder of Root Farm, Keisuke Kishi-san, who has set up a company last year that provide farming experiences to everyone, especially to those living and working in the city, who are looking to enjoy and gain satisfaction in farming, using modern technology.
Upon arriving at the farm, we are greeting by "meh...meh...meh..." the calls of a little white lamp which is only 5 months old. When we asked if the lamp and goat are kept for milk or for meat, Keisuke embarrassedly said they are only kept as pet. I guess they are just too cute for anything else besides being pets.
The farm is about the size of a football field, where one end is planted with corps like sweet corn, lady's finger, tomato, melon, watermelon, etc. There are several 360 degree cameras around the farm which monitor the situation of the farm, the growth of the corps, and these images are uploaded to the website so that people in the city will be able to see the growth of their corps.
Here is a mobile phone on a stand in the middle of the farm. See how innovative it is to rainproof it.
I found a bite size watermelon (still a young one). If you have not seen how watermelon grows as a plant, this would be interesting.
I found a small frog jumping between the grass on the floor. A friend told me it is called a "rain frog" which normally appears after the rain.
Check out Root Farms's homepage and download their app to find out how you can enjoy farming in Minami Ishigara!
