Global Venture Habitat, Osaka

The Founder of WASABI Creation, Tong was invited by Global Venture Habitat which is run by Sunbridge Venture, supporting startup companies in Japan.

Tong shared about his past, present, and future projects on how WASABI Creation is bridging Japan, Singapore, and the rest of Asia in terms on Business, Culture, and Tourism. In particular, Tong talked about his interest in Japanese traditional crafts, and his ideas on developing new products for the modern global market. This could be done through international collaboration between carftmen and makers in Japan and those overseas. 

The participants are working professionals from all walks of life, who are interested in entrepreneurship and innovation. Some of them are planning their next career switch, while some are embarking on their passion with new projects

The Founder of WASABI Creation, Tong was invited by the professor of Ritsumeikan University MBA Class as a guest speaker at the Umeda Osaka Campus.

Tong shared about his working experiences when he was working in Japan as a fresh graduate, as well as his business experiences in Singapore as he worked on various projects and served different clients in bridging Japan and Singapore.

The students also actively asked many questions about Singapore, especially on introducing Japanese products to the Singapore market, such as about consumer behaviours in Singapore. 

Tong also shared about his thoughts on entrepreneurship, and his experience as a student entrepreneur when he was in university.

Tokyo Fashion World 2017

WASABI Creation supported our client from Singapore at Tokyo Fashion World 2017 by conducting pre-event research to identify potential collaboration partners, as well as coordinated meetings between our client and the exhibitors.

We had arranged over 10 meetings with the exhibitors in a single day, together with interpretation support for non-English speaking exhibitors. 

Our client was able to obtain useful product information from the latest fashion trend in Japan, and establish contacts with companies from Japan for further discussion.

With MRO Broadcasting, 2017

WASABI Creation was invited to be part of the production team together with MRO Broadcasting in producing a travel TV programme for introducing Kanazawa to the audience of Singapore, and other Southeast Asia countries. The TV programme is scheduled to be broadcasted in December 2017. WASABI Creation was engaged as a consultant to provide advisory to the production team on how to convey the rich history and attractiveness of Kanazawa to the audience. CEO & Founder of WASABI Creation has also played the role as one of the casts, experiencing and introducing Kanazawa in front of the camera. 

The shooting took place over five days, producing 3 episodes of programme of 30 minute each, show casing the beauty of Kanazawa to the people of Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Fashion e-commerce targeting young adults

Our client is a fashion e-commerce from Singapore, who has expanded to Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Australia. Their next target market is Singapore's young adults who are tech savvy as this group had not been targeted in their marketing strategies so far.

WASABI Creation's influencer marketing agency partner in Singapore conducted a 6-month influencer marketing champaign for the brand by deploying over 20 micro and macro influencers, generating over 390,000 outreach and over 8,900 engagements. 

Consumer Survey

Singaporean's eating habit

The client is a research company from Japan who is conducting a study on Singapore's F&B marketing for a Japanese restaurant chain.

A two-week survey was conducted with 20 Singaporeans in the age groups of 20s to 40s, including people from the Chinese, Malay, and Indian ethnic groups. All their meals, both eating at home and dining out were recorded everyday over a period of 2 weeks, to find out Singaporean's eating habits and budgeting for meals. 

WASABI Creation supported in the research by recruiting and managing the 20 participants, monitored their progress, as well as rewarded them with a small token of appreciation.

Subtitling for Documentary Film

'I Want To Go Home'

'I Want To Go Home' is both a feature documentary and an upcoming English-Japanese autobiographical novel publishing under Math Paper Press created by Wesley Leon Aroozoo, a filmmaker, as well as a lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts. 

 'I Want To Go Home'  is about Yasuo Takamatsu, a man who lost his wife to the tsunami that hit Onagawa in 2011. Since that fateful day, he has been diving every week in search for her. The novel is named after the last SMS that Yasuo Takamatsu received from his wife who saw the impending tsunami. Since then Mr. Takamatsu hopes to fulfil his wife’s last request. I didn’t want his inspiring story to be an article that came and went. I decided to share this man’s story of loss, recovery and determination to reunite with his wife in a novel.

'I Want To Go Home' will have its World Premiere in Competition at the 부산국제영화제 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).

WASABI Creation supported in the transcription of the interviews and translated from Japanese to English for the subtitle of the documentary.

HonestBee launched in Tokyo

HonestBee is an online grocery service, launched in Singapore in July 2015. 

WASABI Creation works with Japan's biggest influencer marketing agency: UUUM in creating 2 YouTube videos by popular Japanese YouTubers.

The YouTubers introduced HonestBee's mobile application by making grocery orders using the app for preparing dinner, as well as preparing for a barbecue trip.

The videos are also screened during HonestBee's media launch event in Tokyo.

PopUp Angels is an online platform that makes it easy to find, rent, and set up short term retail and event spaces in Singapore and Hong Kong.

  2. An experienced retail and marketing team that is able to walk them through the whole process of renting and setting up a pop-up store.

For landlords, PopUp Angels provides them with a means of leasing out their vacant spaces to pop-up stores. We are currently working with over 100 landlords in Singapore including mall operators such as Suntec City, Guocoland, Far East, and Cathay.

Established in 2005, they succeeded in the outdoor mass cultivation of the microalgae called Euglena (Japanese name: Midorimushi) for the first time in the world. With the corporate philosophy of "Make People and the Earth Healthy", they research, develop and sell food and cosmetics containing Euglena. By 2020, they aim to utilize it as the first algae biofuel in Japan and conduct research on biofuels. They won Prime Minister’s Award, the highest award in the 1st "Japan Venture Awards Program" in 2015. They were listed on the TSE Mothers in December 2012, and upgraded to the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 2014.

WASABI Creation created the English subtitle version of euglena Co. Ltd's corporate video, for its marketing purpose in Singapore.

Euglena is microalgae with only 0.05mm in length. It is a mysterious creature with

the features of both plants and animals grows in fresh water. It can store energy by means of photosynthesis like plants while it can also move around like other microorganisms.

 

Euglena was born 500 million years ago in the primitive age. Euglena was discovered by

Antoni van Leeuwenhoek of Austria in the 1660’s. In 2005, euglena Co.,Ltd became the

first in the world to succeed in outdoor commercial mass cultivation for food.

 

Euglena which has features of both plants and animals contains 59 varieties of nutrients,

which is enough for human survival. When euglena grows through photosynthesis,

it produces oil that can be used as biofuel that is suitable for jet-fuel, which also helps

to reduce CO2 emission to the atmosphere.

"Omotenashi" is the philosophy behind Japan's hospitality. From hosting their guests at home, it is further extended to tea ceremony, customer service, product design, and many other aspects of life. Such way of thought and care for detail set it apart from the rest of the world, and formed part of the unique experience for travellers in Japan.

 

Representatives from Ishikawa Prefecture Government Singapore Office shared with us the differences in hospitality between Singapore and Japan, as we introduced what Omotenashi really means. As the number of Singaporean tourists to Japan increases, the concept of Omotenashi has come to their attention and becomes a large part of what makes Japan so attractive.

Professor and students of MBA class from Ritsumeikan University had a study trip in Singapore, and they came to visit WASABI Creation for a discussion seminar with the company's founder,Tong. Together with the professor and students, Tong shared about his experience when he was working and living in Kyoto, his startup experience in Singapore, and issues faced by Japanese companies when doing business overseas. 

They also touched on topics such as inbound tourism to Japan, marketing and branding of Kansai as a travel destination, as well as internship and educational programmes that would be useful in developing "Global Mindset & Entrepreneurship" for young people in Japan.

At WASABI Discovery vol.4, we have invited Managing Director of Hoshino Coffee Singapore, Mr Kengo Sakai to speak to us about coffee and cafe culture in Japan. 

At this event, Mr. Sakai shared with us his experience in the F&B business, his passion about coffee. He also made comparison and contrast of the cafe business between Japan and Singapore. Participants also had a chance to made your own hand-drip coffee for coffee tasting.

NATAS Fair 2017

Supporting Don Quijote at Singapore's
biggest travel fair

 

The National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) is an industry-led body representing the travel agency community within Singapore. Twice a year, NATAS organizes Singapore’s largest consumer travel fairs: Travel in February/March, and Holidays in August/September. These two massive fairs showcase her members’ latest products, trends and destinations, attracting more than 110,000 visitors and bringing outbound travel agents, national tourist organizations, airlines, hotels, car rental companies and travel-related services together under one roof.

WASABI Creation has supported Don Quijote's booth at the Japan pavilion with sales and promotional staff throughout the 3 days of  event by introducing Don Quijote to visitors, as well as giving out Japan's travel information.

 

Don Quijote is Japan's biggest discount store with over 300 shops throughout Japan, offering various products with quality service and great convenience. Such as: Luxury brand fashion, home appliances, groceries, beauty and cosmetics, consumer electronics, alcohols, furniture, toys and games, costumes, party goods, etc. Just about anything you can think of!

Japan’s agriculture & Biotechnology”

At WASBI Discovery vol.2, we have invited Mr. Kengo Fukui from Chitose Agriculture Initiative to share with us about interesting trends and stories about agriculture in Japan, introducing "Farm-to-Table" concept, which each prefecture is to create their own vegetable and fruits brand, secrets of how famers in Japan can produce one of the best quality fruits and vegetable in the world, as well as his observation in Singapore on Organic, Urban farming.

Many agriculture companies, and urban farmers from Singapore attended the event to learn from Mr. Kengo, and exchanged ideas and information surrounding the topics. The speaker also brought along strawberries harvested from their farm at Cameron Highland, which were to be shared with all participants.

KAZU JAPAN

Japan's accessories in Singapore

 

KAZU Japan carries the popular accessories, home decor, and power stone products from Japan, which are sold in thousands each month in major retail outlets such as Tokyu Hands. In 2016, KAZU JAPAN designed and produced a Singapore souvenir product with Merlion design.

WASABI Creation assisted in the licensing of the Merlion design from Singapore Tourism Board, as well as identifying retail shops as distribution partners for the product.
